I know that S8 is more stable than S2 or any other Sulfur allotrope, but why? I drew out an MO diagram and the pi orbitals of the 3p orbital are closer in energy. Does that mean there will be more repulsion, so the sigma bonds are formed?

S8 has larger molecules than S2 molecules so therefore more electrons. So S8 has stonger Van der Waals forces and is stronger.
