Can toothpaste give a man an erection?
« on: 15/04/2010 17:35:54 »
OK, you are thinking that I have lost the plot completely but I've just noticed that Arginine is an ingredient in toothpaste. As far as I know Arginine makes the messenger molecule that triggers erections. So could cleaning your teeth give you a woody? Would you need to use a massive amount of toothpaste in order to produce the desired effect or would your liver muck things up and change the arginine before it did the trick?!!!

That explains it! I thought it was seeing my reflection in the bathroom mirror.

BTW, the term "woody" is highly unscientific. I suggest you consult this link prior to making further posts.

Well, after convincing a few mates that it does and a few tubes of toothpaste later, I can conclude that the only time that it can work without fail is when the toothpaste is used on the teeth of your partner right before she/he puts their mouth to good use :) maybe a little crude but tried and tested.

I sens the placebo effect here, maybe you should make a trial where the girl uses saline instead of tooth paste. I bet there will be some kind of reaction too.
The best would be if there would be two girls, one of which used tooth paste, the other used saline and you would ask them not to tell you which is which. Then you would have to go through 10-20 trials with both of them, trying to guess what substance did they use on their teeth.
Now that would be a really good kitchen science.

Toothpaste can be toxic if swallowed in large amounts, so I would think that there would be very little absorbed in the time one brushes their teeth.. Now keeping in mind that absorption is generally pretty quick under the tongue, say with morphine, and nitroglycerin, etc.. I still think this is quite a stretch, to think it "wood"..LOL, do the trick so to speak! I really doubt it, and I, not being scientifically trained am not an expert either!

LOL, I am definately going to try and get funding for Pwees recomended experiment. I think you would need to change the girls out occassionally as well...just so that there is no chance of familiarity to impact on the very scientific results....wow.. the sacrifices I am willing to make in the name of science :). I can also not claim to be an expert in this field but based on the experimentation required, I am willing to become one.

Actually Make it Lady and KarenW, I can state without any uncertainty that men are depraved when it comes to all things sexual, so you can be very sure that if there was any truth or substance to the question, men all around the world would be walking around with the whitest of teeth and would halve the dental business quite quickly :). From my personal perspective, although I brush my teeth three time a day, it is really not that exciting ;)

May I suggest identical twin ladies would have to be used for the experiment as you may get a minger with the toothpaste and a hot babe with the placebo. That would never do. If identical twins could not be found then the man would have to wear a blind fold to make it fair.

Somehow I think we'd have boners all round just thinking about it. Look Ma, no toothpaste!

I am really into this topic!

Of course, even if the science is a little suspect, anything that encourages adolesecent males to brush their teeth would not be a bad thing.

Think of the advertising potential too. I'm just popping out to register Boner Toothpaste as a trade name.

I think Geezer is onto something here.....you can also imagine the advertising video that accompanies the boner toothpaste!!!! I wonder if TNS website would like some of that action to sponsor some equally interesting research like the effect of too much beer and sunshine on the human body in tropical paradises? I for one am volunteering myself for that one....but only after we have concluded our boner toothpaste research of course. The research participant will definately be welcome to come along for the ride :)

A quick web search for foods with a high arginine content indicated a number of products- mainly nuts.
Also since reproductive anatomy is fairly similar in males and females, anything with the suggested effect on men would have an analogous effect on women.

Tell me MIL,
have you experienced this effect when sucking on a few nuts?

I find the Brazilian has the greatest effect on me.

It would have to be in nuts, of all things. Dr Ian U. Endo would love to work on this.

Is there any arginine in oysters?
