What Is Grahams Number All About ?
« on: 05/07/2010 11:27:15 »
Dearest naked Science Peeps Of Sharing Knowledge Joyness,

As a sheep I of course luff numbers….......numbers are my all time favourite thing when it comes to counting stuff…..numbers are great.

Now then ...here's a thing for ewe......….think of a number between 1 and 100…double it......…add 37…multiply by 14.....reduce by 13%.......then add 668……....finally take 45 away......and divide by 1.5………kewl eh ?…LOL !!……..see..numbers can be made to do all kinds of things and the good thing is….there’s always enuff numbers to go round !…so…thank ewe to the person who invented numbers.

Now then…as ewe may or may not know there are some big numbers out there……when one is asked to think of a big number the first thing that springs to my mind is 1000…now that is well big......…bigger than a  93 which is also big….

Here is 93 to show ewe how big it is.

A Big 93 Next To An Actual House

Nice eh ?…being delivered next Tuesday as an ornamental bird bath.

Now then, there is a number which believe it or not is even bigger than a 1000…and it’s a number called Grahams Number !!…heard of it ?….it’s well big !!

What I would like to know is can someone give me an idea of how big this number is ? and what use this number is…..Is it the biggest number ever ?

I would like to know because knowing this will help me know it.

Hugs and shmishes

Mwah mwah mwah

I don't think anyone knows what the actual answer is; graham's number is somewhere between 11 and a stupendously large number.  personally, I hope it is twelve.

I won't bother quoting from it - just have a read of:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham's_number

It would appear that we know it's much larger than 11 though.

Thank ewe imatfaal....I really hope it's 12 too. This number though does have a name so it must be able to be defined somehow.... :)

Gosh..thank ewe LeeE.....Grahams number is certainly big.....I see it was created to solve a specific problem and that the last few digits are known to be 2464195387......and that it's so vast that it can not even be described adequately.

Thanks again
