Can lightening produce ozone?
« on: 19/08/2010 04:04:12 »
If so, in general, would it be a significant amount ?
Would it fill the volume of the void or the parameter shell (walls) of the void produced by the lightening bolt itself?

Lightning doesn't produce ozone but it does produce nitrogen oxides inside active thunderstorms. These inturn react with VOCs and sunlight to produce ozone.

As for volume, most measurements are made of the nitrogen oxides and not the ozone. Try googling for STERAO or looking on the NCAR homepage.

I see the subject matter focuses on NO3
I see where it associates O3
I fail to see how O3 is produced.
I do see how important it is needed for that extra oxygen atom.

OK I found this: in your support

http://www.epa.gov/airnow//airnow/ozone/o3.html

Using your info and mine  I googled it Then this popped up

Interesting phenomina with scientific results

Thanks many roads do lead to Rome.
