Try this (variation of a very old) one on him then.

"If you have 10 red socks and 10 blue socks in a drawer, without looking, how many do you have to take out to guarantee you have a unmatched pair?"

Actually, it's not 2 if you're colour/color blind. You'd take all 20 out and you still wouldn't find an unmatched pair.  ;D
