Hello,
I am posting this question for anyone in the Geology - Mining Field.
I recently took a position as operations manager for the transportation end of several
iron mines here in mexico.
I have since been exposed to the mining industry down here and see the market as both
fraught with peril and potential. So, I am trying to educate myself (I have an mba with specialization in economics & JD (general already) from the ground up on the industry and the science.)
I know nothing substitutes for a good school like Colorado School of Mines or Virgina Tech but that is not an option right now.  I am bound to the day to day operations here as it is at times like juggling while being snipered at down here.
I do have some background in hard sciences and am able to learn from books.
I currently have the The Teaching Companies Geology series and have found 40hours of lectures on you tube for Geologic Engineering.
What I am asking is this: Can anyone recommend a resource (be it: online or distance learning, college text book, industry manual, how to tutorials or otherwise) or resources that will help bring me up to speed. I am not looking for short cuts. I know its a hard and precise science.
I specifically interested in Iron Mining, Economic Analysis of Mines, and Exploration.
Any input anyone has will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Alex

Sir,
Thank you very much!  That I missed this thread prior to asking my post I apologize.
I am going to cull that thread right now for some good starting points.
  Much appreciated.

I found this online textbook informative and accurate. It has an interesting approach. The only objection I have is to the total lack of colour sense on the part of the author!
