Good Morning citizens,

As I write this the FDA has thrown open the request of Aquabounty to license GM salmon for a period of public comment.

Aquabounty says their strain of salmon reaches market weight sooner and on less feed. So let the lukewarm milk of precaution be spilt.

What do you think? Shouldn't someone tell the Queen?

I have seen that on the News a couple of nights ago.
It was explained that growth hormones were not used.

They cross bred, hybridize, with some funky non poisonous fish.
Mother natures doing, I interpret, by placing the matting copulating items together, or was it Gene spiting, creating a Franken fish.

Sounds like a fish that wears a new set of Jeans genes.
Like all new things, can we believe the sources that are driven by profit?

Australian Agriculture Minister Tony Burke parrots Monsanto CEO, Hugh Grant, claiming the world's booming population means we must accept GM crops. But since GM crops were launched in 1996, the number of malnourished and starving people worldwide has skyrocketed from 350 million to 1.2 billion.

GM crops cause liver and kidney damage.
Quote
A report published in the International Journal of Microbiology has verified once again that Monsanto's genetically modified (GM) crops are causing severe health problems. A legal challenge issued against Monsanto forced the multi-national agriculture giant to release raw data revealing that animals fed its patented GM corn suffered liver and kidney damage within just three months. Adding to the mounting evidence that GM crops are dangerous all around, this information provides a damning indictment against Monsanto which continually insists that its GM products are safe. Not only are GM crops proving disastrous for the environment, but study after study, including those conducted by Monsanto itself, is showing that GM foods are detrimental to health.

Did you know that GM insecticide is already in some of our foods?

GM Salmon have not tested for human consumption.
The growth hormone they inject into the salmon has been tested in its natural state but the Salmon with this added hormon has not.

That is for sometime. genetically altered fishes has to be introduced to normal being sooner or later. I am pretty much sure about that. newbielink:http://frankenfish.com/genetically-engineered-salmon-%E2%80%93-does-mother-nature-approve.html [nonactive]

Tommya and Echochartruse:

You have been having a nice little talkfest all by yourselves, but now you have a challenge to your beliefs by Frankenfishideas. It is time to act like a scientist, or a science enthusiast, and get busy and provide some references to original sources that support your viewpoint. Not your opinions, or opinions of commentators, just published, peer reviewed, research. I hope you do because I generally don't like the idea of GM foods. I think that it is just intended to make money, not taste good or be healthier, and because of the corporations rapacious practices. However, I could not convert any of my scientific friends to your viewpoint on the basis of the crap you think is evidence.

Did you know that GM insecticide is already in some of our foods?

Yes, made by the very bacteria I am working with. What is your point? Are you planning on turning into a caterpillar? Do you even know what the insecticide is? It is considered organic, and the bacteria that produce it are often used on organic crops to control pests. So when you next eat your organic veggies or fruit, think about how much exposure it has had to the very same toxin that is in GM crops.

Why does one of your links give me a page to an article on the Austrian Catholic Church abuse hotline.

Another comes up with page not found.

Another is from GMwatch!

Natural news-not a good site for impartiality!

As for your last link.... I don't think even FFS covers it!

If you are going to have a discussion on a science forum, then you simply have to reference papers, credible scientific journal articles not just trash pulled up from the net. I understand that many sites require you to pay, but if you give me the journal and article title I can download the full text for free and send it to you if that is any help.
