Is it a good idea to put saliva into a wound?

Raghu sesha  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello Dr. Chris,
I was listening to one of your newbielink:http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/ [nonactive] of 2008.  In the 18 May 2008 newbielink:http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/ [nonactive], you discussed about the large number of bacteria present in the mouth, both good and the bad ones.  In the show, Marcello Riggio from Glasgow University pointed out that the bacteria present in mouth can cause major problems if they enter the blood stream.
I have also read that the saliva does contain antibodies.
So, if I have a cut in my finger, is it a good practice to put my saliva on the wound?  Is it good practice to put my saliva on someone else's wound?  I have seen this practice in many places.  I wanted to check if this is a healthy practice.

newbielink:http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/ [nonactive].  Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Raghu S
