Many scientific models are designed to predict the future on a limited scale.

Some of them can do quite well.  But...  none are perfect.

The future of what? Things like the orbits of planets can be predicted very accurately, things like the weather cannot.

Here in the USA, 10 day weather forecasts are reasonably accurate...  well, at least better than chance.

A big part of the current global warming debate is over predictions for the next century.

There are also population models and predictions.

But, things can be sobering, for example a group with NASA predicted the current solar cycle to be the biggest in 400 years...  yet so far it appears to be the smallest in several decades (of course, that can always change).

After a quiet 2010, so far this year we've been creeping up on the sunspot numbers, so anything can change.

As far as orbits...  the orbits of big things can be predicted quite well.  There are still some uncertainties in the orbits of smaller objects, especially when looking decades into the future.

I can highly recommend you the book: "An Experiment With Time (Studies in Consciousness) by J. W. Dunne"
Have a look. Quite interesting.

The IPCC can predict the future with absolutely certainty.
Except for the times they make mistakes.

Prediction of certain events tends to depend on what one believes.

I do believe I'll have another.

It is certainly possible to predict how one chemical will react with another, but that would not have predicted that I would go arse over tit down the stairs.
