finger/earlobe/nasal-septum are parts of the human body ...

A photoplethysmograph (PPG) is an optically obtained plethysmograph ... A PPG is often obtained by using a pulse oximeter which illuminates the skin and measures changes in light absorption ... PPGs can be obtained from transmissive absorption (as at the finger tip)

Light is part of an EM spectrum with colors determined by wavelength.

You can choose very short wavelength light (X-Rays and Gamma-Rays), and it will pass through the human body, showing details of what is inside.

;D

Ask the invisible man ;D

It does throw up the question of whether our skin can, at least partially, become transparent. - I'm not sure how pigment works in our bodies and what colour we would be without any of it - ?   .... If nothing else I assume we would be quite red, what wil all that blooooood!!! :D

Gamma radiation can go right through you, and when it does it most probably will cause you a health risk. And that's 'light' too :)

If it goes right through then you will be fine - it's when it is stopped by something that you might get a problem.

Visible light can be used to image structures in skin up to 2mm depth apparently ...

Wow!! That's really rather clever! Brings a whole new meaning to 'only skin deep'...

Yeah - I had thought of them peeps. Seems a strange condition - and of course being about as pale as it's possible to be I guess they want to stay out of the sun too.

Arhhh! Makes the choice of Lightarrow as a handle seem quite scary now!  Is it actually the weapon you're building in your basement? :o :o :o

While not really letting light pass through you.  The "perfect camouflage" is when one can take an image of what is behind you, and project the image in front of you.  A great theme for science-fiction books.

However, some octopi can essentially do this, changing their skin coloration to match whatever is behind them.

(and, yes, I read that the plural of octopus is ambiguous).

Don't you hate when it repeat itself in a smaller picture at the bottom?
Otherwise I most probably would have tried to start the movie :)

(D*n Imatfaal, you're perfectly correct. :)

Yoron - on the big picture and small thumbnail - is that a new thing?  I seem to remember that it never used to have the thumbnail at the bottom

The youtube thing I posted isn't embedded in this forum, it's just a screen grab of the Youtube page.
(embedding videos isn't permitted in this forum)
The URL (link) to the Youtube page is posted below it.

The thumbnails are new, and I guess it has to do with some quirk of a update of the server. That we can't post movies is just a choice TNS has made. I don't mind :) although I do like to be able to play the movie 'embedded' in the post myself.

Thanks RD, it was perfectly 'embedded', and almost fooled me :)

I just thought of the name 'Light Arrow' in the context of mad space weapons programs, like America's Star-Wars programme of the '80s - I can just see some boffin, after a billion-dollar grant from the Pentagon, proudly unveiling a quarter-scale model of his laser weapon!  - The Light Arrow

"Those damn Ruskies Sir. They're already trying to track it. We need a decoy.."

And so there come to be a TNS. The ultimate in Web technology.

You better own up  eh, 'Light Arrow' was it?
And don't you try to fool us, we got you all covered.

Signed. "Resistance will be useless."
