Can petrol be made out of plastic?

Luke Simpson  asked the Naked Scientists:
   Hi Chris,
Not sure if you've ever answered this one or not. But I was wondering whether or not it is possible to make petrol/fuel out of plastic, since petrol can be made out of corn, coal and everything else it seems.

Thanks,
Luke
What do you think?

Probably, but there's other more useful things you can do with the plastic- like recycle it.
It would also depend on the plastic.
