Kyle Healey  asked the Naked Scientists:
Is it possible today to repair an optic nerve with stem cells?

If so how far are they from doing human trials?

Many years ago when I was about 11 to 12 years of age I developed Hydrocephalus.  At the time I was living in a small town in northern Ontario and the doctors weren't really sure what was going on.  The illness progressed to the point where it had put enough pressure on the optic nerve in my right eye that I currently have no real vision.  After a period of time and many tests I was finally sent to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital where the Hydrocephalus was finally diagnosed and a shunt was put in.

I am now 40 years of age, have had a few shunt revisions.  The vision in my right eye is still very poor as well as there was slight vision loss in my left eye as well.

What do you think?
