poo !...why is it brown ?
« on: 18/02/2012 15:18:51 »
Dearest poo-ologists,

I did a search to see if this kweschun had been asked before and all I got were posts about brown dwarfs and I seriously don't think I could poo one of those !

As a sheepy , I , like the queen, do not poo or wee wee....this is fact !....But it has been brought to my attention that poo is brown !

This is the moment where I would below display  a fine example but for the sake of ewe lot eating your breakfast and those eating choccy ice cream or choccy spread on toast I have taken the executive decision to not post a piccy of poo...so..instead...here is a piccy of choccy mousse !

Sheesh !!....Who Let the Dog in ?

So...why is Poo Brown ?

Plenty other nice colours in the rainbow !...In fact...Rainbow poo would be lovely !

Hugs and shmishes

mwah mwah mwah !

Neil
Poo-Be-Poo-Be-Poowap !

Ah! Now, well, you see....... erm....... yes, I'm glad you asked me that kweschun.

No, no I'm not. In fact I don't know why you have asked such a faecesous kweschun.

Why is poo brown??? Let's face it, if your poo did come out in all the colours of the rainbow, you'd be off to the doc a bit rapid.

"Doctor, doctor, help me!"

The bottom line (sorry!) is that there is a chemical produced in the colon called stercobilin which is made from the bilirubin produced when haemoglobin from red blood cells is broken down. Bilirubin is a yellow colour, stercobilin is brown. Poos can also be artificially darkened by the presence of blood, if a person has bleeding from higher up in the GI tract.

Here's the link to a answer I gave to this question on the radio a few years back:

You can also change the color of your waste with diet.

Eat lots of milk and cheese for a day, and it will turn whiter in color.
A pound or two of black jelly beans, and it will turn blackish in color.
And, a few fresh beats, and you can turn it blood red.
