Small Ocean Only Planet
« on: 19/05/2006 06:09:10 »
Just pondering the possibility of a planet like the Earth with an ocean the size of the Black Sea only. Could it be? Would their be sufficient air moisture for rivers into the sea and sufficient evaporation for a continuous equilibrium? I suspect it may not work.

I suspect it would work, if the parameters were correct.

i suspect it wouldnt as there wouldnt be enough water, it would evaporate and settle over the entire planet but i could be wrong

I have a feeling that it would be quite unstable, as the amount of water in the atmosphere would be comparable to the water in the sea, which would be comparable to the water in rivers so a small global change in temperature could either evaporate it all, or double the size of the sea.

Gravity would be the big problem.  There would not be enough gravity to keep the atmoshpere and water on the planet, so you would end up with just another barren asteroid.

This planet has a magnetosphere, but has not been hit by many comets.

It is another Earth analogy, only with a small sea, so fiction.
