The "Ruby" chip shop in Glasgow makes an aphrodisiac dish called a "stonner".
("Stonner" = "that which is standing" = erection).

"   New kebab dubbed most dangerous U.K. food

GLASGOW, Scotland, Aug. 9 (UPI) --
"The Stonner", a 1,000-calorie, deep fried pork sausage kebab has been dubbed the most dangerous fast food in Britain.

Sky News reported Monday the kebab contains 46 grams of fat and is double the calories of a Big Mac hamburger.

However, the Ruby Chip Shop in Glasgow, Scotland, that sells the kebab has provided a health warning to customers:
"Due to the severe health damage of this fine dish, we can only supply one Stonner supper per customer per week,"
reads the sign provided by the restaurant's owner, Saei Sangag. "

For the pedantic, walking ten miles brisky will burn off the 1000 Calories in a "Stonner".

The Glasgow chipshop probably does deep-fried Mars bar as well:-
" The deep-fried Mars bar, served with a side order of fries,
threatens to usurp the haggis as Scotland's best-known dish."

Well there you go, tis easy for you to go to Paris...Unlike those of us who live in the middle of no-where ( deepest darkest worcestershire[:0])
There is a fantastic restaurant in Ludlow called Hibiscus (has mitchelin stars ;)) Might want to save that one up for her though as the waiting list is about a year[:I]

Thanks Jo,

Yes I know the Hibiscus, The sous-chef, Notre Eally is a chum of mine. You're right about the waiting time, fortunately, he usually gets me in far quicker than that. ;) I appreciate your recommendation...get your hubby to get off his backside on the next Eurostar to Paris :)

Ok...we're off out within the hour....I did suggest to wifey that we go park outside the local kebab shop and sit in the car eating some quality kebab..then hang around some street corners kicking cans and pulling faces at old people...but she said  no !!..honestly...there's just no pleasing people is there ?

I'll come back later and let you all know where we eventually went.....to be honest...it's just nice to get out of the house....Yayyyy !!!

There's this great little place I know along every road in London. They do happy meals, unhappy meals, new variant meals - where else could I mean but CJ McD's?

Thanks Chris...yours is the most sensible recommendation yet !! LOL

Well, we ended up in some little bistro in Cuffley, Herts...very nice...your usual European and Italian fayre but a very friendly small restaurant.

thanks again for your help everybody...I really want to try the Hibiscus and am literally 'dieing ' for Roberts deathly stonner and am filled with bedlamatic insanity over Chris's  'I've gone quite simply mad' McBurgers !!

I love your choice...I was going to suggest this great restaurant in Quebec City as it was an Italian restaurant where the waiters sing opera and don't let the restaurant get too quiet as they will throw down an empty tray on the floor to make some noise...I was even serenaded by one of them personally...(they love to spotlight a few people)my group that accompanied me was very amused by the handsome man as he kept flirting with me...then off to the Voodoo Club...fabulous, wild place...

Next time, if you want to go into the west end. Try L'autre in Shepherds Market. It's a Polish-Mexican restaurant. Not many of them about. I can thoroughly recommend it.

With my husband growing up in England we have travelled back there to visit.  I'm sure if I say where he is from someone will have something to say about it, so best I leave that as I was not taken back by its beauty either.  On the outer skirts of the town it is amazingly gorgeous and from Scotland, Ireland, Wales straight down to the south end of England the majority is breathtaking.

However, the one place that always comes to mind when I think of England is the Magpie Inn in Whitby (west coast, north of York)  Whether it be that finally I got a great meal at a very reasonable price or the fact that finally I could get something I felt was healthy and delicious with vegies and not cost me a bucket load.

Not to say other restaurants etc didn't offer anything special but this for some reason has just stayed with me for many years.

Or Neil, for really supperb meals another couple of great restaurants, just down the road!!!, you will find in many restaurant locations in Melbourne Australia!!! (and without blowing my horn as I am Australian) Melbourne is definately the Restaurant Capital.  We have every walk of life here cooking their speciality and if you can't find it, it simply does not exist.

I love to travel and I love to experience new dishes.  I will definately look over this post when I return to England later this year for more favourite restaurants.
