Is television viewing bad for you?
« on: 04/06/2012 09:55:47 »
I wonder if staring at a TV, with constant camera cuts could be bad. I understand it activates the orienting response.

I wonder if the constant flickering and cuts causes physiological changes, like fight or flight, increased stress (cortisol) & breathing.

I am also curious as to what the effect of looking at rapidly changing images has on the cognition & neurotransmitter release.

What do people here think?

I don't know the answer, buy its strange how when I watch a movie or tv show from the 60s or 70s how slow paced some of them seem because I've finally gotten used to the fast shifting camera angles. I am glad the shaky hand held camera-like affect has kind of gone out of style in filming. That kind of made me feel sea sick to watch.
