Would stimulating brown fat be healthy?
« on: 21/07/2012 02:30:01 »
James Muirhead  asked the Naked Scientists:

Dear Chris,

Having listened to the most recent podcast on CFS and stimulation of brown fat, I was wondering if there was any formula or rule of thumb when subjecting the body to coldness. I speculate that immersion in water around 18 to 20 C until shivering starts properly would be of value. I would anticipate that as the days go by, it would take longer for the shivering to start and this may be, in part, due to the stimulation of the brown fat. However if Andrew Whittle has any more useful advice, then I would be interested.

Many thanks for a highly informative podcast.

Regards,

James Muirhead.

What do you think?
