Anyway, Mostly, it comes and goes. Sometimes I think I smell everything then others, I can't smell anything.

Loss of sense of smell is called "anosmia", it can be caused by sinusitis:-

Really. Is that long o sound or short?
What is the difference between sinusitus and allergies? I have always just lumped thenm together. I chew gum becauase it helps my nose to stay clear and helps my ears when I am feeling clogged.  Hummm! I just read that artical. What is "persistant mucosal disease in the surgical bed?" I need simplication, but 1rst I will try my hand at it. Is that where a disease of the sinuses stays after attempts to remove or treat said disease, go unchanged, so it just stays around in the sinus tissues? Are the sinus tissues the surgical bed?

The "o" in "anosmia" is short; same pronounciation as nozzle.

Allergies can cause sinusitis, however there are other causes:-

The article refers to a surgical procedure where tissue has been removed to enlarge the airway.
The site where the surgery has been performed is "the surgical bed".

That is an interesting site Robert! Thanks for clarification on those questions.  Sorry I am so late getting back to post to yours,  I had a busy couple of days!
Gosh if they removed tissue to widen the airway that is cool. My nose is constantly giving me the business. When I was stuck on that darn nose spray I thought Jeeze that was what was my culprit, but Doc said no, That the rebound from that would pass and all would be well as my nasal tissues would renew themselves so to speak! So even before and still after having had the problem with the nasal spray, I still have bad sinus problems.

Before you sign up for surgery Karen,
according to the above article on anosmia, only about half benefitted from surgery:-
" After surgery 52% maintained significant improvement in smell".

Surgery would be the last option.
There are two different types of nasal spray : anti-histamine and corticosteroid (steroid):-

I hate having surgery. I would live with this! The information is good though and I have used the saline solutions which provide little releif. I have done better just sticking it out. There are times I resort to a nasal spray, but I try to steer clear of those too.
