No way - cannabis or more popularly know as marijuana has "no known medical uses" as told to Americans by our Government.

Why would the U.S. government patent something that it claims has no known medical use(s)?

Fortunately the patent is likely to be invalid elsewhere. A patent is supposed, in a civilised country, to protect inventions, not discoveries.

"No known use" does not preclude a patent being granted for a new use. Post-It notes were a failed new adhesive that didn't actually stick to things (unlike BluTack, which still has no known use).

Anyhow, it's a good wheeze, because anyone caught with an ounce of Mary Jane who claims it is for medical use, will now have to pay a royalty fee.
