What are the consequences of urethral stricture?
« on: 18/07/2013 01:30:01 »
Bingo wa Ngoma  asked the Naked Scientists:

Please help me, I've got what doctors call urethral stricture (my operation will be on the 27th June 2013 at Steve Biko Academic hospital).

Now the problem is, I'm experiencing very weak erection and my sperms ( if that's the good word) are so weak (not milk like colour but water like). What might be the cause?

Does my weak sperms and weak erection related to this urethral stricture?

Thank you,

Regards,

Bingo in Rosebank

What do you think?

Constriction of the urethra could restrict flow of semen (which contains "sperms")...

Low-volume, runny/fluid semen ... are a logical consequence of an obstruction downstream of the seminal vesicles which contribute most to the volume of the semen

Hopefully whatever caused your urethral stricture has not caused strictures elsewhere, and all your problems will be resolved when the urethral stricture is repaired.

If the urethral stricture was caused by an infection which has included the prostate gland (Prostatitis) then that could explain the erectile dysfunction ...

What are the symptoms of chronic prostatitis

Symptoms have usually been present for at least three months within the previous six months.

The symptoms include:

Pain - this is usually around the base of the penis, around the anus, in the lower abdomen and in the lower back. Sometimes the pain spreads down to the tip of the penis and/or into the testes. Pain is the main symptom in chronic prostatitis. The pain may vary in severity from day to day.
Urinary symptoms - such as mild pain when you pass urine, an urgent desire to pass urine at times, some hesitancy when trying to pass urine, a poor urinary stream.

Sexual problems - you may experience impotence (difficulty in getting an erection), ejaculation may sometimes be painful and some men have worse pain (as described above) after having sex.
