How do GI's drive these?
« on: 14/09/2013 18:09:53 »
Its been a busy time, of late, with events from Buckingham Palace to Aberdeen.
But one task at the DSEI event in ExCeL, London, saw me having to put this baby on to the exhibitors stand:

Now I'll accept that I am one of what could be termed 'not inconsiderable stature'....... all right, I'm a tad overweight........ OK, OK, OK, I'm a fat git. But what I want to know is how does some 6'13" built-like-a-brick-outhouse GI manage to get in this monster, let alone drive it for miles across rough terrain. There is surprisingly little room in this 6 ton 90mph armoured truck.

You have to take your hat off to those fella's, you have to take your hat, shoes & socks off to get in this contraption! Still, at least they have the wide open spaces of the desert to drive through, I had a 3m wide aisle in an exhibition hall to get through and then turn it on to the stand without spoiling the carpet!!!

Find a copy of Richard Hammond's Crash Course Abrams Tank Season 1, Episode 1.

It is amazing how tight the quarters are inside of the modern tank.  I wonder if it is the same in other army rigs.  Is having too much stuff inside limiting to what the soldiers can do?

It would seem that at least some vehicles would be designed for quick ingress/egress.  I'd hate to think of sending a tank out on a rescue mission only to tell the people it picked up that they have to ride on top because there is no room inside.

I climbed inside a leopard tank once, definitely no room or comfort. I'd be banged into mush traveling a few miles in one of these. I'll stick to the video game, thanks.

Tanks? Tanks?

Its an armoured vehicle, I'll grant you, but not a tank. I think you've gone somewhat off track here, not entirely, just sort of half-track. By the way, your zip fly is undone. Please Schützen your panzer.
