How do insects detect DEET?

If the concern is DEET resistance, or the ability to ignore DEET, perhaps one should look for similar receptors, rather than finding more chemicals to activate the same receptor.

There have, however, been people looking for mosquito repellents that don't contain DEET, so this may help with screening alternatives.
