What causes thunderclap headaches?
« on: 17/10/2013 04:30:02 »
susie hall  asked the Naked Scientists:

Has any information of the origin or reason for the Thunderclap Headache been found?

I ask this question, because I have had this problem for over 10 years and my doctors state that it sometimes happens from over-stressing myself during sex. My husband is very sensitive about it and has withdrawn from pushing me to have sex, when I am concerned about a recurrence of the pain. The Pain feels like my head will EXPLODE and sometime my eyes are open but I see nothing but darkness. My husband gets me ice packs and aleve to help kill the pain, but that really does no use. The pain subsides about 45 minutes later but I still have a numbing effect for at least 2 days later.

My father passed away about 2 years ago from a Brain Tumour (Cancer). This was never detected, just a overnight issue it seemed to us. His Left frontal lobe was completely engulfed with cancer and part of his Right lobe. This was shown to us on his MRI once he was hospitalized. His Cancer was found on July 7, 2011 after a CAT scan showed a quarter size mass and he passed away on August 12, 2011.

I am worried that I may have some type of Cancer in the brain and it may go unnoticed like my Dad's did until its to late.

What do you think?

Quote from: wikipedia.org/Coital_cephalalgia
Also known as "sexual headaches", coital cephalalgia is a rare type of severe headache that occurs at the base of the skull before orgasm during sexual activity ...(referred to as "explosive headaches") ...

A retinal examination by an ophthalmologist seems in order to see if the blood supply to your retina is OK.

Migraine can literally be a "blinding headache" ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retinal_migraine
