How do you remove carotenoid stains?
« on: 14/07/2014 15:30:02 »
Ralph asked the Naked Scientists:

I have a supplement that I take am Mixed Carotenoids from D.Saline Algae 10,000 IU Beta Carotene softgels. By accident one capsule was on the kitchen floor and I stepped on and walked around not knowing what I had done.  Now I have these spot/stains of orange in various spots on my floor. There is a spot on a throw rug also, but i can replace that.

So, obviously I NEED help removing this stubborn stain. Let me know PLEEZE either way if you can help me? I'm not a "science tist" Thank you in advance for your care, cooperation and attention to this frustrating stain situation.
Sincerely, Ralph
What do you think?

The good news is that most carotenoids are not very stable to light and air so the stains will fade.

If you can dry clean the things that will remove a lot of the colour.
So would ordinary bleach- but that's only going to help if the floor will survive bleaching.
