Chinese Genetics
« on: 05/08/2014 13:23:54 »
Sorry for the dumb question, but I don't know where to start to research this.

How genetically similar are the Chinese people from one another? Are they just as diverse as any other "race" in the world, or are they more close?

I know there's hundreds of ethinic groups in China, but even though they look somewhat similat between each other, at least in my perception.

I do understand that, but the same would apply for Africans, Germans, Russians, etc, and I don't perceive it that much in that cases. Of course I'm generalizing here. I also realize that the groups above account for many ethinic and mixed groups that came from other places, but so do the Chinese.

Part of my assumption is based on the fact of their culture being so closed, and the fact that most Chinese would rather marry another Chinese than someone from another "race".

There must be some research available, I just can't find it.

A study into the genetics of Ghenghis Khan suggest that around 16 million Chinese men today carry his Y-Chromosome; this implies that many millions more Chinese carry other genes from this ruthless conqueror.
