I heard a suggestion that the Ebola virus sheds a lot of loose virus coat protein into the bloodstream. Antibodies attack the loose protein instead of the protein forming the virus coat, which diverts the immune response.

Perhaps, if the antibodies could be generated by a vaccine, the circulating antibodies could attack the virus when it is first contacted, instead of being overwhelmed by the decoy protein circulating in the bloodstream?
