Gamma Ray Bursts
« on: 07/09/2006 03:03:58 »
Just found out that a single gamma ray burst (which can last from anything between less than a second to a few minutes) puts out more energy than the entire output of every star in the galaxy....perhaps the entire Universe. That's big !

Do we know yet what causes these cataclysmic events ?

This is a great question.

I for one will stand out side and cup my hands in the attepmt to harvest the energy.

The thing is....there is a very very good chance that if one of these burst hits us it's bye bye earth !!!

They could be caused by Massive first generation stars colapsing into blackholes or nuetron stars coming together with other stars or blackholes, but i dont believe they know for sure what causes them as thankfully most GRBs Emanate from outside our galaxy which unfortuanaly also means their to far away for us to profit from.
