The case of UFO's as alien visitation has at its core a conspiracy. The conspiracy is either UFO enthusiasts deceiving us to make a buck or our government deceiving us to maintain power.  While everyone can understand and sympathize with people out to make money, people have far less tolerance towards a government which would lie and waste resources.

It is hard to impossible to prove a negative.  UFO enthusiasts making this their career can just let people's imagination run wild and sit back and watch the comedy of government denials.  It is undeniable that people have made money selling the idea of UFO's.

While it may be entertaining to watch the government denials, the flip side raises our hackles.  If Area 51, Area S-4, Wright-Patterson, Dugway Proving Grounds, or RAF Rudloe Manor truly harbor alien craft, alien visitors or maintain advanced alien technology, the anger of the citizens over the deception could factor into an upwelling of mob violence to seize back control from a government gone amok.

Recent government functionaries, Colonel Macgruder, Bob Lazar, Ben Rich, Boyd Bushman, have come forth that seem to sway us towards that mob violence scenario.  These men, some on deathbed confessions, claim the government has known for years about aliens and has had access to advanced energy technologies.  If true, why is the government asking us to pay taxes to waste our productive output on wasteful and environmentally damaging technologies.  If the nation had access to these advanced technologies, many of the detrimental impacts on our environment and the welfare of citizenry could have been avoided.

It seems that as we go along better and more credible witnesses come along.  Each giving video testimony as to the secrecy and deception of the government with regard to UFO's.  In order to continue to believe the government we would need to see how the witnesses on their deathbeds have become involved in the commercial advancement of the UFO phenomena.  If we prove suddenly, without the government first revealing the facts, the existence of extraterrestrial alien presence, the people may rise up and overthrow the government.  Our history is a guide to the violence we direct towards governments that lie and abuse the good faith of its people.

Apathy rules. People are more concerned about secure jobs, when the next iPhone is out or other very trivial things. The western world is too comfortable to complain and only marginally cares about the suffering of others in deprived environments. We believe technology will solve all our problems. Well it won't alien or not.

We also have the following public declarations from astronauts:

Major Gordon Cooper
Donald Slayton
Major Robert White
Joseph A. Walker
Commander Eugene Cernan
Ed White & James McDivitt
James Lovell and Frank Borman
Neil Armstrong & Edwin Aldrin
Maurice Chatelain
Scott Carpenter

They all claim to have seen UFOs which they believe to be from another world. Many of them are National heroes (Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon).

It seems crazy to think that there is some sort of alien coverup, but I personally have seen quite a few UFOs over my home town (White pulsating orbs hovering slowly, completely silent, changing direction then disappearing over Jersey, Channel Islands). We don't have experimental craft where I live. We don't even have a military. I just think it is a matter of time before public knowledge gets turned upside down and we realize that we aren't the big fish in the universe anymore.

... Edwin Aldrin ...  claim to have seen UFOs which they believe to be from another world.

You're conflating two statements he made ...

Be careful about misrepresenting "Buzz" : he gives conspiracy-theorists a knuckle-sandwich .

Yes, Buzz Aldrin publicly retracted it.

That's what any sane person would do after all.

Yes, Buzz Aldrin publicly retracted it.

He did not retract either of the statements :  he said saw a object in space which he could not identify,  and in a separate statement that he believes there is probably life elsewhere in the universe (because of its large size).

You have conflated his two statements by incorrectly stating he has "seen UFOs which they believe to be from another world" , which he did not say.

You have to state some thing before you can retract it : so he retracted nothing.

Arguing over definitions is besides the point.

Buzz Aldrin said he saw a UFO outside the space shuttle. He asked mission control if it might have been the jettisoned engines and the response was they were a logistical improbability. All this suggests that Buzz Aldrin once believed he saw a UFO which defied all logic and the heavy implication is that it was alien. If years later as an old man he attempts to assure us all that he is not crazy then if anything we have to respect that his judgements were probably about as sound as any normal person at the time.

It is still interesting regardless of how Buzz Aldrin chooses to phrase his words about the matter nowadays.

Well, consider the alternatives: it was a human controlled UFO, it was an illusion, it was a reflection of the sun's rays or space debris. His previous statements suggest that at one point he believed alien control was the most likely possibility for what he saw outside of the shuttle window.

I see UFOs pretty much every time I fly. Sometimes the radar operator can identify them, but only if they have their transponders switched on to Mode S. They all seem to be piloted by intelligent beings, but with a choice of several thousand radio channels, the probability of communicating with any one of them is pretty small. They mostly look like aeroplanes, which clearly shows that their civilisation has probed our atmosphere and found an efficient way to fly in it. Some, that look more like helicopters or balloons, perform manouevers that no manned aeroplane can execute. They are very common around major cities, airports, and military installations, but in the countryside I often see white UFOs with long wings, that travel in absolute silence and sometimes land in fields  - probably to abduct livestock.

There is indeed a government conspiracy, known as the Campaign Against Aviation and supported by a secretive supranational body known as EASA, that is trying to keep legitimate human aviators out of the sky, presumably to make more room for aliens and people travelling to climate change conferences.
