Who do young people blame when they fail?

Anthony Ray asked the Naked Scientists:

Some time in the last few years (best guess 2-6) I remember hearing about a study in which it was found that when young people met an obstacle such as a bad exam result, the young men were more likely to maintain a strong self-image and instead blame external factors (eg the teacher doesn't like me) but the young women were more likely to blame themselves ("I'm an idiot"). I wonder if that was something you might have talked about sometime? Any recollection? I listen to your podcast on Radio National breakfast.
What do you think?
