Help identify what's inside this rock

My father and I were breaking open rocks in a creek bed around 40 years ago when we came across this rock.  The rock broke into 4 pieces but he glued the pieces back together.  I've hung onto it all these years and have wondered exactly what it is.  If anyone could shed some light on the subject I would greatly appreciate it.

I think it's the natural-version of lime-scale accumulating in a pipe ...
