In your last podcast a UK ophthalmologist, Dr. Nick Sarkies, said that proper eyes are shaped like footballs. Well, I have a very bad case of astigmatism. I live in the US. My eye doctor told me that its cause is that my eyes are shaped like footballs.
Does this mean that if I move to the UK I will be able to see properly?

Hi Dominick
As you correctly surmise, the problem lies with the definition of "football"! That's why we tend to use the term "rugby ball" to describe the elongated cornea of an astigmatic, as opposed to football!

Now if only you'd stick to tennis balls there would be none of this ambiguity. [
