Eelectro field
« on: 20/10/2006 04:17:23 »
O.K i have a question about an electric megnetic field. My friends is trying to make one by getting a super conducter and then freezing it with liquide nitrogin to create an electro megnetic field to make a knife flout for halloween. Is this possible?

why talk when you can fight

I don't know what is a knife flout, but making a material which is  superconductor near liquid nitrogen's boiling point, it's not easy at all.

If you made the knife out of a very strong magnet it would be possible to make it float, but you would need a very large piece of superconductor to make it float more than a few mm up, ideally shaped slightly in a bowl. It would probabaly be cheaper to do something with permenant magnets and coils dynamically keeping it stable, a bit like the mag-lev train the germans have built in Shanghi.
