How closely related are we to armadillos?
« on: 15/05/2015 21:41:33 »
This month I went along to the Imperial College festival to check out the
exhibitions, and an interactive tree of life caught my eye.

Good question. Are there any Jewish armadillos?

I've never heard of one mentioned in the bible or Torah!
If they were, would they be Kosher?

Armadillos would certainly not be kosher. As mammals without hooves they are automatically disqualified...

I would like to hear more discussion of the original question, though.

I've now had time to listen to the podcast and look at the tree.
We appear to be closer to hedgehogs and rabbits than armadillos.
One thing that looks strange is that it makes it appear that rats are a higher form of development than primates!
It is a bit clunky on ipad so I'll have to go desktop to roam around it in detail.
I'll report back if I find anything interesting.
