A new family member and pregnancy are both factors on "The Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale" which public health nurses (among others) use to spot people who are at risk from serious illness -- presumably from increased stress. Some factors are things like buying a new house and some are things like a leg amputation. Curiously, it is less stressful to have a bank foreclose than to buy a house. I have done both and generally agree. Man proposes, God disposes.

You can go here (1.) to assess how much risk you are carrying and see whether or not  your new rug rat is likely to put you in an early grave ---or it just seems that way.

I think you're looking for "Couvade syndrome" ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couvade_syndrome

There is always that moment early on when you look at that new babe and get the fan-tods wondering how you are ever going to bear this cross.

If you don't experience this you are either an imbecile or barking mad.

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get. What if the kid grows up to be a homeopath for instance?
