Lighter than air vacuum?

If it was possible to construct a light enough container of some size in which  vacuum could be created,  would it be lighter and if strong enough not to implode, would it float away as if filled with hydrogen of helium ?

As long as the sum of the mass of the container and the contents are less than the same volume of air, the thing will float.

That is the problem - Earth's atmospheric pressure at sea level is about 10 tonnes (or tons) per square meter.

Any known material strong enough to resist that immense pressure will be too heavy to float in air (but even iron can float in water!).
