Why do my lips turn blue after a long run?
« on: 07/08/2015 19:50:01 »
Mateja asked the Naked Scientists:

I was wondering what is the cause of blue lips after a long run in healthy female runner age 51 years old.

Thank you
What do you think?

It could be nothing and it could mean next stop --> stiff city. How would anyone ever know from such limited information?

This is why doctors do things like listen to your heart, listen to your lungs, check your fingers for clubbing, etc. etc.

Tell you what. Make an mp3 file of your heart sounds from the same places on your precordium that a doctor would listen to and send it to me. Then I will give you a worthless opinion.

OR you could see a real doctor.

+1 on see your doctor ... http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cyanosis/pages/introduction.aspx  [ maybe take some photos of the symptom to show the doctor ]

https://www.google.com/search?q="cyanosis during exercise"

"exercise-induced asthma" is a possibility. [ air-pollution or pollen can be a trigger, which you may encounter on a outdoor run , but probably not when exercising indoors ].
