It has occurred to me recently that I do actually have choices.  There is no especially valid reason as to why I should carry out my existence in the remit of the time zone I find myself inflicted with.  I know it is actually British Summer Time at present, but that's only for people who are on holiday, and I'm not... so the fact of it is just annoying.  To say so our Greenwich Mean Time, so far, has proved to be a tad on the stingy side, I'm thoroughly sick of it and I see no reason to carry on, so here I am exploring the alternatives.

Obviously the internet is the way to go and I've come up with this site:

http://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/

Lol...you know I never imagined for one moment that there would be so many different kinds of time to choose from, I'm literally like a child in a candy store :)... I've been through the lot and I hate to admit it, but for me the most interesting time advertised has got to be military time, there are so many flavours.  This leading me to wonder if it is at-all possible to actually exist in more than one time zone simultaneously...or is that just being greedy?

I reckon Romeo time and Whisky time might combine together quite nicely, or India time with Hotel time.  I could get into that... but I suspect that much like the military's land, it's time zones will be off limits too.  I cannot find the shopping kart page to confirm (might have to draft in a younger generation person to sort that out for me) but I suspect that these military times are unavailable to the general public as they are shaded in blue.  Does this mean that Japan Standard Time is military though?  Surely this is of course a mistake on the part of the advertisers...

Pacific Time sounds really good but probably only because that is the way I pronounce specific... I'm fairly undecided, but leaning towards ordering up Irish Standard Time.  I like the standards of the Irish, it's still Europe and I don't want to suffer any lag, I've seen what it does to computers... but I might well be tempted to try something more adventurous in the future.

Please feel free :D

When I am King of the World, all time zones, clock changes and datelines will be abolished. The date and time at the North and South poles, on every ship and aircraft, and everywhere else in the universe, is UTC (or Zulu) which is as near as dammit to GMT, so why not use the same number in California (now on summer time), Arizona (not on summer time), Delhi (now 4.5 hours ahead of BST) and all over Australia (where some parts use summer time but the TV schedules are....um... well it all depends...)

Since the invention of fire, day and night are of interest but not significance. If we really want to live in a connected 24/7 society, 13:00 should mean the same to everyone. It just happens that the sun is high here but low in New York and Moscow - so what? We worship money, not the sun, so we should be able to do business when we like.

And the date everywhere is the same. And to prevent idiocies like 11/9 being called 9/11, everyone will use the ISO form, on pain of excommunication (literally).

Well...clearly I myself have been sleep posting...again, but you my dear are 'the man'!

What a great idea.  I will have to trust that you have cleared Zulu time as suitable mathematically.  I'm severely alergic to numbers, but I can see that this would mean that I could work when I want to and that is like a dream come true.

I am going to have myself a hearty lunch now.  Whether lunching in or lunching out, its always been my favourite meal and I can have it any time now if I like.  Brunch is good also, but only if lunch isn't served too much later.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I have no opposition to your being King.  I actually think you very brave!  I've been studying Game of Thrones on the history channel, so rather you than me...

Ok...I'm signing off now to go in search of a few valid points for your crown :)

Well, I'm sitting here pondering...and what a lovely afternoon it is for a ponder, (btw, can we do away with the days of the week as well? I've never liked those and would prefer it if we could just have Saturdays and Sundays... If that's alright with everybody else...?  I've got more to say on this practice later) ...and so, yes it's four pm in the world at mo, I'm pondering in the sun and thinking to myself that perhaps I was a bit hasty eating my lunch at eleven am, I think I need to consider further on how world time fits in with meal times perhaps... However, I doubt very much if I'm the only one out of sync, someone somewhere must be eating their dinner at four pm and I reckon it'd be rude not to join them...

Meal times aside, (but only because I've eaten now) I've also been pondering a point for the crown.  It does occur Alan, (and I am in fact totally fine with you being king, it's you I'm thinking of) ...that being king is a double edged sword.  So as an alternative, and I do realise this upside down, inside out type of thinking is a recurring theme where I'm concerned, but I'll warn you all in advance, right or wrong, or even very wrong, I plan to get as much mileage as possible out of the art while the inspiration takes me...

We've been doing the king thing for eons, but I can see an ideal alternative.  What if the population were to tell the king how they want their world to be and then the king says ok, and let's them get on with sorting it out for themselves? In such a situation, logically speaking, we wouldn't need to have an actual king, we could just invent one - a bit like the emperors new clothes - and it might go a bit like:

"So about the Saturday and Sunday two day week proposal?  Can we all agree the king says we are good to go?"

I completely understand that this is not a novel idea, but I've never actually observed it being put to proper practice. My granny told me there was a time once, but I think she may well have imagined it.

I don't know what anyone else's plans are, but I could be awake later...someone else in the world will be and I wouldn't want them having to stay up by themselves.

We should be more ambitious and look outward. Pick a point on Mars and use that for a clock - we could all live by Mars time and thereby favour no country here at all, and it would be fun having clocks lose all local connection with the sun so that we're delightfully confused the whole time.

Hmmm David, I am unconvinced myself.  I read a thread on one of these forums that I took very seriously indeed.  It said the gravity on Mars would cause a human head to explode and as gravity and time are linked, well... you can see where my concern lies.  Needless to say I cancelled the tickets immediately...

Awww, :), I've discovered today that my search engine has personality!  It has sent me a message which I would copy and paste if I weren't such a technological dinosaur... But this is what it said:

"Dear Vikki, I can provide you with as much porn, other peoples selfies, and cat pictures as the next search engine.  But could you please, please limit your physics requests to ten searches per day?  The questions you are asking are wearing me out.
Thank you in advance.
Your Search Engine"

Now come on guys and girls, how cute it that?

Pour me somethin' tall an' strong,
Make it a "Hurricane" before I go insane.
It's only half-past twelve but I don't care.
It's five o'clock somewhere.....

And so it is!

:) I like a bit of poetry...

There's a time to speak up
There's a time to be quiet
There's a time for hot chocolate
With brandy, have you tried it?

I'm snuggling up
With my hot steaming cup
Tomorrow is another day
I'm hitting the sack
In the morning I'll be back
To see what they have to say

So I'll bid you goodnight
Hope you don't get too tight
Perhaps I'll find you under yor_on's table
Coffee is good, he might make you a cup
IF the internet renders him able...

Now here's an irrelevant conundrum. I tried to post a slightly longer quote from "five o'clock somewhere" but the system objected to a line about Maragaritaville saying I had attempted to post a banned word! I have no idea what was causing the problem and I haven't been through a process of elimination yet but clearly my scatalogical vocabulary needs updating!

Chocolate and brandy seems like a good idea, meanwhile.

Shock horror!  Not Margaritasville as well... Honestly, no country is safe these days, I'm thinking of moving under the sea myself.  The Simpsons did it, there was singing and everything!  Although to say so the proposed dimensions of Aquarius's universe did sound appealing.

In any case I'm not pushed at the mo, iPads have gone out of season but the blackberries are delicious.  It occurs that dipoles might taste even better though...

LOL!  I've just been reading some very interesting takes on hair up on the 'proper' physics section.  I wonder, could this actually be classed as yet another new String Theory?

Seriously though, there is such a thing as a 'right time' and tbh, this is most probably the 'right place' for individuals who are intent on letting their hair down...

I get most of my advice from Sophie, a flat-coated retriever who really understands everything. She says the right time is NOW, the right place is HERE, and if you don't start from scratch, you should make time to stop for one. As for letting your hair down, I have to pay someone to pick up the hair she lets down all over the place.

Goodness me! You also receive advice from your dog?... You and I have a lot in common Alan...

Now then...people have been on at me for years about my eyesight and I have been ignoring them religiously... But if anyone had thought to mention that I've been missing out on blue angels with green wings and bright eyes, well... to say so, I reckon it's a case of spec-savers as a matter of urgency in the morning for me!  Oh Boy, I can't wait!  If I double up and wear the free pair as well, will I see twice as many? ... or is this just purely a spec-ulation?

A cricketer returned from a good lunch and said "I can't posshibly bat thish afternoon. I can see three ballsh." The captain said "just hit the middle one". He was out first ball. Captain said "didn't you hit the middle ball?" Batsman said "yesh, but with the wrong bat".

Yes exactly guys, that is what we're talking about, perspective.  If it's not here, then it's over there... not everybody realises this!

An administrator of one of the physics forum competitor sites I used to visit...  (by the way Alan, did you know SpeedFreek's got Jack Russell's?) ...put it very nicely to me in this link:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dS12p0Zqlt0

(I might even pm him this thread, he's actually a right good laugh.)

Exactly. The two-slit experiment is not a paradox buit a tautology.

got Jack Russell's ... cricket pads? disease? ex wife? car keys? I have an overwhelming sense of indifference, though an autographed pair of pads would be quite a trophy - he was a sound wicket keeper and an aggressive batsman. Indeed I think they named a dog after him.

Well, if anyone was idiot enough to even think about trying to reconcile quantum with classical physics, I for one would strongly advise against it. How on earth are we to teleport in the future if energy doesn't come in quanta?   Really, I mean can you imagine?  To say so, the particles that make up the human form themselves are, of course, a piece of piss to disassemble and reassemble at another location, any three year old could manage this feat using only a DVD of Barney the dinosaur...
But IF the energy of a person were delivered continuously then obviously teleportation would be rendered difficult...  We can see that by applying the... I'm sorry hang on a mo... "Yes what is it I'm busy?" ..."What are you saying?" ..... "Oh yes, I completely forgot this is the nonsense thread, dammit!!"

Erm...hmmm

Aha... :(

I heard the news today, oh boy!!!

Lol!  I hadn't thought about a time travelling teleporter, my imagination is now well inspired.  Thank you!

Btw Alan, I hate to mention this in public, but you know, here we are...You seem to be developing a bit of 'i' trouble!  It's not too bad yet, but I thought you needed to know before it gets dangerous.  In any case, really it's nothing to be embarrassed about, I've never understood why it has such stigma attached.

All the best...

Due to fat fingers - I play bass instruments and generally relate to the gorilla family, but it just happens that  I'm currently doing some research on eye disease.

Oh, I see... Terribly sorry to assume, but now I'm aware of the cause I won't worry any further.  I personally have trouble with the words 'your' versus 'you're, and 'were' versus 'we're'... But this is a full blown medical impediment.  My auto spell checker can't even help me on this one as it does my other significant shortcomings.  It is a NHS though, I might have to go private!  My granny would turn in her grave if she knew.

You play bass, :) , I am musical too although I'm no good at notation which makes me a not very accomplished musician.  I've worked as a technician though.  Are you pro, or it it a personal thing?
