When I get the news letter from Einstein at home I get this distortion of the text so that O1 becomes “O1”  I have tried opening on several different computers with different software and it is always the same, I never get it on any other email and cannot reproduce it.

There are different character encoding methods ,
( e.g. different methods are employed by Linux and Windows ).

The code for the sloping-pair-type of quotation marks is causing the problem : those are 'special characters' .

There is usually an option on text-processing-software to select the encoding method.

In Java, the standard text encoding is called ISO_8859-1.
Note the -1 at the end.
Most char encoding sets are designed with a subset of English language
In many variants that carry other characters e.g. a charset that is to ANSI ASC2 and ISO-1252 is alike to English writing HTML is to mathML.
So various characters are substituted at various points, and again dependent Locale setting e.g. RU,EN,FR e.t.c. although locale often responds more to UTF charset designation.
(You can also change page charset view in your browser usually)
