How do I determine the age of a brick?
« on: 25/11/2015 19:50:02 »
John Bridges asked the Naked Scientists:
I have a brick from an old (100 to 220 years) building and I need to know when it was built. I believe the bricks were fired on the property. What would be the procedure and cost of determining the age of the brick?
What do you think?

You could try thermoluminescence dating.

The cost is claimed to be under $1000, and it will involve taking a sample from a couple of bricks
