How to post Diagrams to this site
« on: 01/02/2007 11:38:42 »
The forum includes a diagram drawing package, so here is how to use it.

When you are writing a post click on the Create new Diagram link at the bottom.

This should then bring up a drawing program, you will need Macromedia Flash to use it.

You draw in the white area. The area that will be visible in your final image is the area inside the box with the arrow at the bottom right. You can move the arrow to change the size of this box.

Tools
- Dragging tool, use this to move things around

- Free Draw tool, just hold down the mouse button and draw

- Straight and curved lines, drag to draw the line.

- Rectangle and Ellipse tools, again drag to draw them

- Draw a regular polygon use the slider at bottom right to change the number of sides

- Polyline tool, keep clicking to draw a continuous line, double click to finish, If you are in fill mode finishing will close the polygon. There can be some strange behaviour and you get odd bits of fill around the place don't worry these will not be in the final image. If the fill is enabled it will look very strange until you double click.

Changing Colours
To change the line colours move the three line colour sliders on the right

You are changing the amount of red, green and blue in the colour. You have to do this before you draw something at the moment.

Similarly you can change the fill colour with the fill sliders.

There is an extra slider called 'Alpha' this alters how transparent your object should be.

There are also two buttons at the bottom which turn fill on and off.

Deleteing objects
Click on an object with the Drag tool and then press delete at the bottom left.

Undo
Pressing this will remove the last object you created.

Save
Pressing Save at the bottom right, will save the diagram to the server and close the window. You can edit it later.

Inserting into your post
After you press Save you should be returned to your post, and be presented with a thumbnail of your diagram down the bottom.

The diagram will not be visable until you move the cursor to where you want it then click the 'Insert Diagram' Link.
A small piece of code will then be inserted into your post eg.
Code: [Select]
[diagram=1234]This will be replaced with the diagram automatically.

Editing your Diagram
just click on the 'Edit Diagram' link to edit your diagram.

Altering other people's diagrams
If you want to make and adjustment to someone else's diagram, first quote their post with the button at the top right of their post.

Then press preview to get to the main Post editing screen.

At the bottom you should now see a thumbnail of the diagrams you have quoted, with a link to 'Edit a copy' press this and you will make a copy you can edit.

I followed the instructions for inserting a diagram, but I couldn't find a save button.  What can I do?
