It's a song called Hurt that Johnny Cash did a cover of. It's a simple song but it's all about the lyrics. Although Johnny Cash changed a couple of things in the song, profanity for one. The song Hurt was originally by Nine Inch Nails.

Here are the lyrics, from the Johnny Cash version though.

Hurt lyrics

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

How about this one:

I'll never know what made you run away?
How can I keep searching when dark clouds are the day?

Don't remember the artist's name but I always loved this early 60's song.
