This is fascinating, and believe me when I say that as a depressed person, it isn't regulating emotions, per se. It is about having emotions that are consistent with experience. I have been trying to find a job that I liked or would be competent at for close to 50 years, without success. That experience correlates with my feelings of despair and unhappiness.
