Can dreams causes nocturnal headaches?
« on: 10/02/2016 12:53:50 »
What is the relation between dreaming and headaches? Can intense dreams and brain activity during sleep induces headaches? I don't get nocturnal headaches or experience dreams when I smoke weed. Can cannabis exert a vasodilatory effect on the blood pressure ?

"Can cannabis exert a vasodilatory effect on the blood pressure ?"

I think cannabis has mixed BP-lowering capabilities within the literature, but I'm pretty sure it enhances intracerebral nitric oxide concentrations through induction of NOS via CB2 receptors - thus improving intracerebral blood flow.

It's unclear whether nitric oxide production or deficiency is the causative factor of migraine pain and vascular headaches. However, as cannabinoids appears to increase nitric oxide production, I believe that nitric oxide deficiency may be a factor in migraine pathogenesis.

Cephalalgia. 2000 Dec;20(10):907-18.
Sarchielli P1, Alberti A, Codini M, Floridi A, Gallai V.
Nitric oxide metabolites, prostaglandins and trigeminal vasoactive peptides in internal jugular vein blood during spontaneous migraine attacks.

"Nitrite, cGMP, CGRP and NKA levels reached their highest values at the first hour, then they tended to decrease progressively and returned, after the end of attacks, to values similar or below those detected at the time of catheter insertion"

"Our results support early activation of the L-arginine/NO pathway which accompanies the release of vasoactive peptides from trigeminal endings and a late rise in the synthesis of prostanoids with algogenic and vasoactive properties which may intervene in maintaining the headache phase."
