I was thinking that maybe the multidimensional nature of smooth muscle contraction, as opposed to the unidimensional nature of cardiac muscle contraction, may allow for more efficient contraction for a heart-shaped organ functioning as the circulatory system pump, than the current heart, specifically because a baglike pump like heart requires multidimensional contraction.
Any critique is greatly appreciated
