Are electric cars the future of transport? And can they really reduce pollution?

Read the article then tell us what you think...

Minor errors/omissions

There's a couple of mistakes/omissions in the article.

1. There's not 10,000 recharging points in the UK, there's 10,000 plugs at 3800 locations, (see https://www.zap-map.com/) and they're not owned by private people, they're normally owned by companies that provide them for public use. There's a whole bunch more chargers at people's homes that don't appear on the map- and in fact a car can potentially be plugged in to any 13 amp socket(!)

2. It doesn't take 4-6 hours to recharge, it depends on how far you've driven and how powerful the charger is.

3. The fastest chargers can recharge cars to 80% from empty in around half an hour; this is used for long distance travel; it doesn't take multiple days to drive the length of the UK in an electric car!!!

Have you tried it? It's interesting that the fastest time from Land's End to John o'Groats recorded in an electric car is actually slower than going by scheduled buses and trains.

That's not actually correct, the record electric car speed is 18 hours 53 minutes, whereas the fastest scheduled public transport route takes 22 hours 45 minutes.
