This gives you a "blank" wafer. There are many steps in adding the electronic circuits on top of the wafer.

Residential Solar Cells can use silicon of lower purity, and fewer fabrication steps.

By the way, on a visit to a nuclear reactor, I was surprised to see many silicon ingots in the reactor core, turning on a rotisserie arrangement. The neutrons from the reactor transmute some Silicon atoms into Phosphorus, producing Phosphorus-doped Silicon, even before the ingot is sawn into wafers.
