« on: 01/09/2016 19:07:54 »
APOLOGIES --
I   attempted to show a quartz rock found on Zululand mountain range --
where I live ---
Wondered if anyone could ID  these purplish /mauve crystals ---

but --when I tried to post the all important close up detailed a photo ( digital
500 kb
I was barred /forbidden --due to its over size KB
ITS the smallest my Canon EOS can manage --

Thanks very much for posting; in future can you please ensure that you title your thread as a question, which is the forum policy.

Meanwhile we await the pronouncements of JimBob or Bass...

Possibly part of an amethyst geode ?.
If it is, don't give up the day-job : they can be had on eBay for ~$10 + P&P ...

WHY NO FISH /MARINE CREATURE FOSSILS WITH THESE SHELLS/??
It appears
that all these sea shell 120 million year old fossils

are alone ----NO other prehistoric fish or sea creature fossils are found her
not even crabs or starfish--fossils!??
the entire quarry ---1 km wide --has ONLY  sea shell s of all shapes & sizes & patterns

thought one may find an ancient fish species amongst these fossils?
Appreciate  any insight into why this happened ?

regards  Flinto

It would take an unusual combination of circumstances for a fish-skeleton to be fossilized intact, not so in the case of a shell.

Also the motion of the ocean will sort stones, shells & bones according to size/density.
That sorting-action can make the finds samey.
