smoking, and light headedness

well my stopping smoking isn' going too well. i went 24 hours without and then had a 3 hour wait for a train, needless to say routine kicked in and i reached for a ciragette.

What i noticed was, within seconds i became lightheaded and my top gums had a sort of tingle then numbness!

what was going on, to produce those sensations?

Don't know if pertinent, but nicotine is a narcotic, and I believe the early tobacco could cause quite significant highs, but modern tobacco I believe has less nicotine than that.

Hi paul.fr,

I found plenty of 'lightheadedness' for me-no-smoko!

Enjoy (nicotine?)

Ooh, the lovely nic-buzz. I hate to say it but that is the reason I smoke. When you get the nicotine, your blood pressure and pulse rise which I beleive is why you get the lightheadedness

I just spoke to someone who has just begun the process of kicking the habit.  She is on a medication and a patch and smoked for 24yrs.  She noticed her pulse and blood pressure has went down tremendously, but lacks energy though...has to take another medication at night to remain calm.

I remember in high school the teachers would come out to smokers corner, and ask us why we smoked. I would hear from so many people, "Because it relaxes me". But  this is not true, infact it does the opposite of relaxes.

But then again, when you want a smoke so badly you could snap someones neck... I suppose it is quite relaxing :)

I ain't an expert on smoking, but maybe the lighheadedness is a byproduct used to make the cig?
