there are a lot of factors.  what strain of the bacteria you had, how bad your infection was.  other environmental factors that affected your immune system...

You should always (unless you have an allergic reaction) FINISH your antibiotics.  I'll leave it to the med experts to explain why.  Eating plain yogurt (or taking probiotic capsules) while on antibiotics is a good idea to replace the beneficial intestinal flora.

About a month ago, I had tonsilitis and this, I've been told, contributed to a panic attack I had. Is there a link??

Hi all,

I had tonsilitis a few weeks ago, which I'm told contributed or maybe caused my panic attack. Is there an established link between these conditions?

Being unwell can make you feel down which, in turn, can magnify other problems and trigger anxiety. But to my knowledge there is no know causal link between sore throats and panic attacks. Were you taking any 'medicines' for your throat that could have caused it ?

I'll repeat what Donnah said....ALWAYS finish your antibiotics.  When you don't, you're selecting for the bacteria that develop any sort of resistance to it.  When all their competition is dead, they get to spread out and can possibly reinfect you or another person, and be harder to treat the next time.  Bacteria can also spread their developed resistance to other bacteria via sex pilum, even to other species.

super-resistant M. tuberculosis, S. aureus and S. faecalis infections are all on the rise primarily because of people not finishing their round of antibiotics.  I know it sucks, I know it's unconfortable.  Tuberculosis, a Staph infection or bacterial meningitis that won't respond to medication is worse.

You probably had the panic attack in reation to not finishing the antibiotics.  Your body was afraid of resistant organisms developing!!!!
