Can't tell you who has that email address, but I can tell you that it has been registered to a user, the user registered it a few weeks ago, lives in the UK, and has never actually posted.

I don't know much more than that, and would not divulge the information if I had it.

If you wish to send me an email from that address, so that I can confirm that you do actually own that address, then we can see what we can do about it.  If the other user has indeed used an email address that is not his to use, then we shall have to deal with that, but we first need the proof that it is not his address.

What would happen George, if that person used an email that wasn't his?

I cannot go into that because we would have to decide that at the time, but I would not be surpised if his logon was terminated - but I should stress that this is speculation and certainly I would not suggest that it will inevitably be so in each case.  Since in this case, it appears he has never actually used his logon, I don't see that he is likely to miss it much.

I think that they would be unable to activate their logon in the first place, so I doubt it would be an issue.

It was so long ago that I created my login that I could not recall is we confirmed the email address at time of logon creation.

Ofcourse, that does not prevent people from maliciously (or otherwise) changing their email after having created the logon - or do we confirm the change of email address as well?

I don't think I confirmed my e-mail address when I registered, but that was a couple of years ago and I believe the new (spam blocking..) system does confirm that the account has been created by someone with a sufficiently real e-mail address to respond to a confirmation e-mail.
Of course, I only know this because the confirmation e-mail occasionally fails to arrive having got lost en-route (or in the recipient's spam filter...) and then people complain!

I don't think there's anything to stop people changing their e-mail address after the fact... because it's primarily an attempt to stop spambots rather than real people.

Given that the person who claims to own that email account has never logged on, so I think it probably safe to say he could not have actually altered his email address.

Thus, if Rosy is correct that we do verify email addresses when creating a logon, then I have to deduce from that that he is the genuine owner for that account, so I have to ask what Tony is trying to play at.

Thanks Ben,

I have now received the email from Tony from that account, so we are happy that the account should be his, and are looking into it.
